Salida, CO— On May 4, 2026, the Made in Chaffee conference will convene artists, makers, and creative entrepreneurs from across Chaffee County for a one-day event dedicated to building sustainable, thriving creative businesses. Held at the historic SteamPlant Event Center, the event will offer a dynamic mix of workshops, networking, live demonstrations, and hands-on resources for creatives of all kinds.
Designed to support the region’s vibrant creative economy, Made in Chaffee provides practical tools, relevant resources, and meaningful connections for creatives at all stages, from those just starting out to established professionals looking to grow. The event is especially timely for those navigating the challenges of a seasonal economy and ongoing economic shifts.
Throughout the day, participants can choose from multiple workshop tracks tailored to their needs and business goals. Sessions will focus on actionable topics such as understanding customers and market trends, diversifying revenue streams, authentic marketing strategies, pricing and selling creative work, accessing grants and funding, and building a strong personal brand. Additional sessions will cover business planning, financial fundamentals, sustainable studio practices, and the use of AI and digital tools to streamline operations.
Beyond the workshops, the conference emphasizes connection and collaboration. Attendees will have opportunities to network with fellow creatives, connect with local resource partners, and access services such as free professional portfolio headshots. The event will conclude with a community happy hour from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m., celebrating the artists, makers, and organizations that help shape and sustain Chaffee County’s creative economy. During this time, attendees can also explore resource tables and connect directly with local and regional support organizations.
“Made in Chaffee is about bolstering our creative entrepreneurs through education, connection, and resources,” said Audrey Welsh, Executive Director of Central Mountain Small Business Development Center. “Through the City of Salida’s dedication and commitment to the creative industries here, we’re excited to bring this all into one place.”
Tickets are $60 and include full access to conference programming, a professional headshot session, and lunch provided by Kalamata Pit.
The event reflects growing investment in Chaffee County’s creative economy as a driver of both cultural vitality and local economic resilience. The event was supported by City of Salida, Chaffee County, Town of Poncha Springs and the City of Salida Creative District. Proceeds will support a fund managed by the Chaffee County Community Foundation to fund creative beautification projects to highlight our region’s creative industry.
