A Red Flag Fire Warning is in effect today for multiple areas across southern Colorado, including the San Luis Valley, Upper Arkansas Valley, Wet Mountain Valley, and the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.
The warning has been issued due to a combination of strong winds, extremely dry vegetation, and low relative humidity—conditions that can cause wildfires to ignite easily and spread rapidly.
Officials are urging residents and visitors to use extreme caution and avoid any activities that could create sparks, including outdoor burning, equipment use that may produce heat, or improperly discarding smoking materials.
Fire danger remains high, and authorities stress that even a small spark could quickly turn into a fast-moving wildfire under these conditions.
