Red Flag Fire Warning in Effect

A Red Flag Fire Warning is in effect for today. Widespread critical to extreme fire weather conditions will be likely through the weekend and into next week.

Winds will be gusting to 30 mph out of the southwest. Smoke from wildfires in New Mexico may be visible during the afternoon hours. No open burning is allowed.

All of unincorporated Chaffee County, along with the Town of Buena Vista, are under State I Fire Restrictions.

The Bureau of Land Management has also issued Stage I Fire Restrictions for all BLM lands within Lake, Teller, Park, El Paso, Fremont, Chaffee, and Custer counties.

Prohibited under Stage I Restrictions: building a campfire except within fire grates at approved campgrounds, smoking-except within a closed vehicle or building, operating a chainsaw without a spark arrester, and the use of exploding targets.
