The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has released details on an officer-involved shooting that occurred Wednesday evening in Chaffee County.

Richard Chad Borrego, a 54-year-old Pueblo man, faces numerous felony charges, including:

  • Two counts of attempted first-degree murder of a peace officer
  • Two counts of first-degree assault
  • 18 counts of menacing
  • One count of prohibited use of a weapon

The incident began after Chaffee County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a domestic violence call on County Road 227 in Garfield, west of Salida. Borrego allegedly fired at officers during a standoff, prompting law enforcement to return fire, striking him in the arm.
