The Pike-San Isabel National Forest is gearing up for fall prescribed fire treatments. Projects could begin as early as the end of the month.
Prescribed burns are scheduled in Park County as well as North Trout Creek four miles east of Buena Vista and Threemile Creek 13 miles northwest of Salida in Chaffee County.
Fire projects only proceed when conditions meet strict safety criteria. Fire managers monitor fuel moisture, air quality and weather forecasts before a burn. If conditions warrant, scheduled prescribed fire activities will be canceled.

During active operations, some project areas may be temporarily closed for public safety. Watch for warning signs along roads near all prescribed fire areas before and during burns.
