Phyllis Rae Berkenkotter, age 94, a beloved longtime resident of Howard, Colorado, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2025, at her home. Born April 13, 1931, in Indiana to Clarence and Reba (Fulk) Hamand, Phyllis brought warmth and dedication to her community and family. After moving to the Howard area in 1977 from Broomfield, Colorado, Phyllis worked for many years at St. Joseph’s Credit Union in Salida, where her friendly service left a lasting impact. She served as Secretary for the Arkansas Valley Club in Howard, strengthening local ties. Her passions included creating intricate quilts that won local admiration and baking her famous cinnamon rolls for family gatherings. Above all, Phyllis cherished time with her children and grandchildren. Phyllis was reunited in death with her parents, husband Richard Berkenkotter, son David Berkenkotter, and daughter Mary Tukua. She is survived by her sons Stephen (Kiva) Berkenkotter of Howard, Colorado, and Daniel (Kim) Berkenkotter of Castle Rock, Colorado; daughter Theresa (Rob) Molloy of Loveland, Colorado; and eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Graveside Services are set for Wednesday October 22, 2025 at the Coaldale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arkansas Valley Club in Phyllis’s memory.
