Colorado Preservation, Inc. has announced five new additions to its 2026 Most Endangered Places list, highlighting historic sites across the state that face significant threats.

The nonprofit organization, which works with communities to preserve endangered historic properties, added Bent’s Old Fort, Hartman Castle in Gunnison County, La Morada, the Ordway Pharmacy, and the Pearl Theater in Buena Vista to this year’s list.

Built in the 1880s, the Pearl Theater originally operated as a mercantile before transitioning into a movie theater in 1951. Years of neglect and water damage have left the building in serious condition, with a failing back wall and a compromised roof. The Town of Buena Vista has declared the structure unsafe.

The family that owns the Pearl Theater hopes to restore the historic building and bring it back to life. Plans include fundraising efforts, outdoor movie screenings, and the formation of a nonprofit organization to support the restoration project.

Colorado Preservation’s Most Endangered Places program is designed to raise awareness and encourage community partnerships to help preserve the state’s historic landmarks.
