Today is the last day of 2019 and with the New Year comes new laws. 

Insulin Prices Capped

Insulin prices have been capped. Beginning tomorrow, people with diabetes in the state don’t have to pay more than $100 per month. 

Minimum Wage Increase

The state’s minimum wage will go up to $12 an hour.  The current minimum wage is $11.20. 

Mental Health Check Up

People should be able to go in for a mental health checkup in the same way they go in for a physical checkup, and the cost should be the same.  The idea behind this is to make sure mental health is treated the same way as physical health. 

New Marijuana Law

Local officials can begin issuing “hospitality” licenses to marijuana retailers or other business seeking to allow marijuana use on their property.  Also, marijuana delivery business can receive a license for medical marijuana, recreational marijuana delivery won’t begin until 2021. 

Minimum Age To Buy Tobacco Products Raised

You may have already heard that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has changed the federal minimum age to purchase tobacco from 18 to 21.  The new minimum age of 21 applies to all tobacco products, including e-cigarettes and vaping cartridges. 

Red Flag Gun Law

And beginning tomorrow, the controversial red flag gun legislation goes into effect.  The new law allows law enforcement to confiscate the guns of someone who has been deemed by the court to be a danger to themselves or to others.  Several counties have declared themselves 2nd amendment sanctuary counties, meaning that they don’t plan to enforce the new law.  There is still no word on what these sheriff’s refusals will mean.
