SALIDA, CO — May 23, 2025 — Salida Mountain Sports, a cornerstone of Salida’s outdoor
community and a trusted source for adventure-ready gear, is excited to announce a new era of
local ownership. As of May 23, the shop is proudly owned and operated by Salida locals Austin
and Keely Davis.
Founded in 2007, Salida Mountain Sports has long been a go-to outfitter for both locals and
visitors—offering expert gear selection, trusted advice, and a down-to-earth vibe from its
storefront in the heart of downtown Salida.
Deeply connected to the outdoor culture and lifestyle of the Rockies, Austin and Keely are more
than just owners—they’re hands-on operators who live and breathe the same big mountain
adventures as their customers. Whether it’s backcountry skiing, biking, hiking, or exploring local
trails, they’re committed to keeping the shop rooted in the community it serves.
“We’re beyond excited to carry on the legacy that Nate and Diana built here,” said
Keely. “This shop is something special—it’s honest, community-focused, and full of
the local knowledge and gear that gets people outside.”
The couple emphasized their mission to uphold what Salida Mountain Sports has always stood
for: supporting the outdoor community with trusted gear, real advice, and a welcoming vibe for
adventurers of all kinds—from day hikers to dirtbags, skiers to river rats.
As part of this new chapter, Austin and Keely are expanding the winter demo and rental fleet to
include splitboards, making backcountry access more inclusive than ever.
“We’re fired up to share our stoke for splitboarding with the community,” said Austin.
“Whether you’re on skis or splits, look to us as your local backcountry hub.”
And it wouldn’t be a mountain-town gear shop without a shop dog. Meet Murphy, the couple’s
friendly and trail-loving pup, who’s ready to greet you at the door.
“He’s part of the team,” said Keely. “Even if you don’t need new gear, feel free to
come by just to say hi to Murphy.”
Austin and Keely also expressed their deep gratitude to longtime owners Nate and Diana Porter,
who spent 18 years building Salida Mountain Sports into the beloved, trusted shop it is today.
“We are proud to have created a fun store for Salidans and visitors that has endured the
past 18 years,” said Nate and Diana. “We love this community and appreciate the
support everyone has shown by shopping with us or just stopping in to share their
adventures. Our store would not have been successful without all the amazing
employees we have had over the years, especially now.”
Nate added, “We’ll be around to help with the transition and just continue to be a part of
the SMS family—and I’ll still be on hand in the ski department working my magic with
boot fitting. Austin and Keely are a great addition to Salida, and we feel lucky to have
found them to continue the Salida Mountain Sports legacy.”
Looking ahead, Austin and Keely plan to keep the shop focused on what it’s always done best:
offering high-quality gear, local knowledge, and a place for the outdoor community to connect,
plan, and share adventures.
