The Buena Vista Demon high school football team out on the fields behind the school this week as they hit the ground for their traditional football summer camp.

Nearly 30 athletes are working out in the Demon team camp

There are differences this year, particularly the lack of other teams participating in the team camp, but the work being put in is the same as always.

Some of the faces working with the kids are newer to this class though, with the return of Dave Close as the new Offensive Coordinator for the Demons and Jay Woolmington has returned to work with wide receivers after a year away from the program.

Not much is being let out on the new offense in terms of specifics, but Close says a big factor will be a consistent “no huddle” look for the Demons. As he said, it won’t always mean they go fast, but they will not be huddling. Close also says the team will feature more motion and movement in the upcoming campaign.

Coach Matt Flavin says the camp is good to get to both for coaches and kids, particularly after a really good showing at the summer workouts by the members of the football team.

As far as what they are preparing for? With COVID still keeping CHSAA from announcing what the fall season will look like, coaches in Buena Vista are taking the business as normal approach.

Groups break up for defensive skill training at the second day of the Demon team camp

Normal practice would start on August 10th, and that is the plan at this moment for the Demons as they get set for another season on the gridiron with high aspirations for the season.
