Mt. Princeton Geothermal has filed a lawsuit against the Colorado State Land Board after the board declined to renew the company’s geothermal exploration lease for property in Maxwell Park near Buena Vista.

The company claims the Land Board’s decision was based on “misinformation and procedural errors,” threatening years of work on what it describes as a promising geothermal project.

The lawsuit further alleges that Western Geothermal and Reykjavik Geothermal intentionally misled Land Board staff in an effort to block Mt. Princeton Geothermal’s lease renewal and take over the project.
