The La Plata Fire continues to burn southwest of Leadville, west of Twin Lakes, and south of Highway 82 near the Chaffee and Lake County line.
As of last night, the fire had grown to 82 acres with 0% containment. The blaze is entirely on National Forest Service land, and no evacuations or pre-evacuations have been issued.
A total of 129 firefighting personnel are working the fire, with both air and ground resources actively engaged. A Colorado State Type 3 Incident Management Team has assumed command.
Officials say the fire is human caused. Crews are hopeful that this weekend’s cooler temperatures and monsoon moisture will assist containment efforts.
While there are no fire restrictions currently in place for Forest Service or BLM lands, Chaffee County is under Stage I fire restrictions.
The public is asked to avoid the area so responders can focus on firefighting operations.
