Chaffee County Search and Rescue are urging hikers to know your route and to stay of your route.
Search and rescue responders were called out yesterday to rescue three hikers that cliffed out between Missouri Mountain and Elkhead Pass. The hikers had left the standard route and attempted to descend a steep, unstable rock slope. They called 911 when they realized they were in an extremely perilous location.
Reach Air Medical Services provided an aerial search to pinpoint the subjects’ location. A Search and Rescue technical climbing team was taken to the site where they were able to hoist the subjects off the mountain face and transport them to safety. There were no injuries.
