A judge has modified the bail terms for Barry Morphew, who is awaiting trial in the 2020 murder of his wife, Suzanne Morphew.

On Wednesday, Judge Amanda Hopkins changed Morphew’s $3 million cash-only bail to a cash or surety bail, meaning he could secure release by posting $300,000 through a bondsman.

If released, Morphew must remain in Colorado, wear a GPS monitor, surrender his passport, drive only vehicles registered to him, use only his legal name, and comply with a protective order.

Suzanne Morphew disappeared from her Chaffee County home in 2020. Her remains were discovered in 2023 in a shallow grave near Moffat. Barry Morphew faces first-degree murder charges in her death.

Prosecutors told the court they expect to be ready for trial by next summer.
