Salida Mountain Trails (SMT) and City of Salida Parks and Recreation invite the public to attend a first-ride event on the newly revamped Chili Pepper Trails on Friday, October 31 at 10am.

Based on feedback from families and youth cycling coaches, SMT and City of Parks and Recreation collaborated to “spice up” the beginner-friendly chili pepper trails (Hatch, Poblano, Jalapeno). The new features provide more opportunities for skill development, especially for kids and beginners, and they make the trails more fun for everyone, too.

There will be brief remarks, and attendees are invited to then ride the trails and share their impressions with city and SMT staff. With the event falling on Halloween, costumes are encouraged. We’d love to see lots of families out on the trails together!

“Another great project partnering with SMT,” said City of Salida Parks, Trails and Open Space Supervisor Zach Ryerson. “Improving these under-utilized Chili Pepper trails will be a great addition to the trail system. Crews added/improved 9 rollers, 21 berms, rerouted a section out of the wash, and added 2 alternative lines for the advanced riders. This will add more fun and flow to these beginner-friendly trails to provide more opportunities for skill development, kid friendly laps and better riding!”

Staff from City of Salida Parks and Rec and SMT worked together to plan and execute the work. SMT’s core volunteer corps, Strike Team, also worked on the project. Iron Mountain Tool and Equipment Rental provided invaluable in-kind support by donating machinery. Central Colorado Mountain Riders (CCMR) also loaned equipment to support the project.
