March 25, 1940 ~ February 16, 2024 (age 83)
James “Jim” M. McPhetres, 83, of Salida, died Feb. 16, 2024. He was born March 25, 1940, to Munro and Hazel (Mader) McPhetres at the D&RG Hospital in Salida.
His family moved to Boulder in 1944, and he spent his school life there, until he attended Fort Lewis College in Durango. Before he graduated, he joined the U.S. Army for two years; part of his time was served in Vietnam. Upon returning he met and married Jean Ann Aranci. They were married March 25, 1970, in Durango. During their life together, they owned and operated hotels and motels in Glenwood Springs, Trinidad and Salida.
Mr. McPhetres loved the outdoors; the couple spent a great deal of time outside, whether skiing, hiking, biking or fishing.
He was preceded in death by his younger brother, Richard McPhetres. Survivors include his wife; sister, Jane McPhetres (Kit) Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
No services will be held.
