SALIDA, Colo.— Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center (HRRMC) is pleased to announce the newly-established position of Vice President of Medical Affairs for the organization, and has appointed HRRMC hospitalist Taisa Wiedel, M.D. to the position.

The Vice President of Medical Affairs – often known as a Chief Medical Officer in other healthcare organizations – provides strategic clinical leadership and offers collaboration between medical staff and management, leading to the goal of providing safe, high-quality care and health outcomes for patients.

A hospitalist at HRRMC since 2019, Dr. Wiedel has not only cared for HRRMC’s hospitalized patients, but has shown proactive leadership in her roles as Vice Chief of Staff on the HRRMC Medical Executive Committee and across several key hospital committees, with a focus on peer review, quality improvement and policy development.

“We are fortunate to serve a very large region in the central mountains of Colorado and believe is it critical to have a physician leader on our team,” explains HRRMC CEO John Tucker. “We are confident in Dr. Wiedel’s ability to help us navigate a challenging external environment while we continue to improve our organization’s ability to provide quality and safe care to our patients.”

Dr. Wiedel obtained her medical degree from the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Aurora, Colo. She completed her residency in Family Medicine at Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver, where she served as Chief Resident during her final year of residency. In 2025, Dr. Wiedel was named IM Teacher of the Year at the University of Colorado School of Medicine for exemplifying outstanding teaching, patient care and role modeling.

Dr. Wiedel will work in this role part-time, while continuing patient care in her role as a hospitalist.
