The U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday declined to override President Donald Trump’s veto of two bills, as Republicans largely stood by the president despite having previously supported the measures.

Among the vetoed legislation was a bill intended to help local communities finance the construction of a pipeline to deliver clean drinking water to tens of thousands of residents in southeast Colorado. The measure had bipartisan backing and was sponsored by Rep. Lauren Boebert, a longtime ally of President Trump.

The House vote fell short of the two-thirds majority required to override a presidential veto, effectively ending the bill’s path forward. Supporters of the pipeline project had argued it was critical to addressing long-standing water access and quality issues in the region.

The outcome highlights ongoing divisions within Congress and the continued influence of the president over Republican lawmakers, even on legislation they had previously endorsed.
