Detention Deputy Job Description
Under limited Supervision, performs the duties of a detention deputy of an assigned shift or Unit of the Custer County Sheriff’s Office, to assist and protect the lives and property of Custer County residents, stakeholders, citizens and offenders of Custer County.

Essential Functions and Duties:
• No history of felony or violent misdemeanor convictions
• Current driver’s license. Be at least 21 years of age.
• High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
• Mediates disputes and responds to notices of disturbances.
• Performs assigned duties. Follows office policy and procedures. Studies applicable Federal, State and local laws. Maintains a working knowledge of arrestee rights, inmate supervision and jail principles. Supervises detainees and coordinates handling of high-risk cases.
• Arranges booking, offender management, drug screening and jail operations to include cooking and cleaning, writing reports, preparing legal documents.
• Inspects facility for security issues, cleanliness and hazards
• Provides guidance and mentorship for detainees and staff
• Regularly attends training related to duties. Maintains certification in arrest control.

This is a 24-hour, seven day a week operation; therefore, applicants must be willing to work: days, swings or graveyard shift, weekends and holidays, and be flexible for overtime and schedule adjustments on short notice.

His radio career has had stops in Nashville, Memphis, Oklahoma, and eventually, Colorado. Dan enjoys being involved in the community, having been a member of the Upper Arkansas Service Club and is currently on the board of directors for the Salida Community Center and is a member of the Chaffee County Fair Committee.
