Jon and Carie Hallford, co-owners of the Return to Nature Funeral Home, entered guilty pleas to multiple state charges yesterday in connection with a case that shocked communities across Colorado.

Investigators discovered nearly 200 decomposing bodies at the funeral home, leading to a wide-ranging criminal investigation. The Hallfords faced charges including abuse of a corpse, theft, money laundering, and forgery.

Under the terms of the plea agreements, Jon Hallford is expected to receive a prison sentence ranging from 30 to 50 years, while Carie Hallford faces a sentence of 25 to 35 years.

Jon Hallford is scheduled to be sentenced on February 6, and Carie Hallford’s sentencing hearing is set for April 24.

In addition to resolving their state cases, the Hallfords have also accepted plea deals in their federal cases, bringing them closer to final sentencing across both jurisdictions.

The case has drawn national attention and prompted ongoing discussions about oversight and regulation within the funeral services industry. Sentencing hearings in the coming months are expected to provide further closure for affected families.
