Chaffee County has seen a jump in new coronavirus cases. Chaffee County Public Health is reporting 32 new positive Covid-19 cases in the last 7 days, 47 in the last 14 days, for a 2-week positivity rate of 4.82 percent.

Only one of the new cases required hospitalization, the others are resting at home.

The Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center is operating at 60 percent capacity.

The San Luis Valley currently has 158 known cases of Covid-19 including 22 in Saguache County and 68 in Alamosa County.

Fremont County is reporting 64 new community cases with a 2-week total of 158 for a positivity rate of 4.5 percent.

Governor Jared Polis expressed hope yesterday that some Coloradans will begin receiving a Covid-19 vaccine by year’s end, as the virus’ spread continues to worsen, with hospitalizations and infections reaching record levels in the state.

The governor’s optimism followed drug maker Pfizer’s announcement that data from late-stage trials showed its vaccine was more than 90 percent effective in preventing Covid-19.

In the meantime, the governor continued to urge Coloradans to avoid gathering with people outside of their households and announced that state government employees in counties with the highest level of restrictions will work remotely through the end of November.

Polis also extended the statewide mask mandate for another 30 days.
