After a targeted cyberattack in August, Fremont County is open and resuming normal operations.
Fremont County officials and departments are still working on small glitches, building back stronger and more resilient moving forward. The county also is turning its focus toward building a partnership with the State of Colorado to better prepare for attacks like these in the future.
The incident is still under criminal investigation.
“The initial shock of the cyberattack, was rough, because it felt like a personal attack on all of us, “said Fremont County Emergency Manager Mykel Kroll.” This is our home, and our citizens who we work with and work for. This specific attack targeted county officials and departments, as well as a small number of community members”.
With hard work, determination, support and partnerships, Fremont County is now back to about 90 percent operating capacity and services provided to the county. Elections, Motor Vehicle and the Building Department which many citizens have inquired about are at full capacity. All other departments are between 80 and 95 percent, the county continues to work through the glitches discovered during recovery.
