Free Tax Preparation Assistance Available Through IRS VITA Program

The IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program will begin offering free income tax return preparation services on February 7.

Assistance will be available to eligible taxpayers in both Salida and Buena Vista, though appointments are required.

Residents seeking help in Salida can schedule an appointment by calling 719-431-4578. Those in Buena Vista can call 719-293-1857 to make an appointment.

The VITA program is designed to assist individuals and families with modest incomes. Household income must be $63,000 or less to qualify for the free tax preparation services. Not all taxpayers are eligible, and availability may be limited.

The program is staffed by IRS-trained volunteers and provides a no-cost option for qualifying residents to file accurate federal tax returns during the tax season.
