Fremont County Search and Rescue said crews were called out to an area north of Penrose just after midnight Monday to help at least one person trapped in their car during flash flooding. By the time crews arrived at the scene, they said the person trapped in their car was able to get out and back to safety. Just afterwards, crews responded to a second person trapped in a car in the same area.
As a precaution, crews said they cleared the entire flood area to ensure that no one else was trapped. Crews left the area by 3 a.m. Monday.
Search and Rescue teams are urging the community to understand that even shallow water can wash away a car and that flash floods happen quickly and unexpectedly. If you are faced with flash flooding, rescue teams say turn around and get to higher ground.
