The United States Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management have implemented Stage 1 Fire Restrictions on federal lands within the Leadville Ranger District and Salida Ranger District.
The restrictions apply to all federal lands, roads, trails, and dispersed camping areas within the affected districts.
Under Stage 1 restrictions, campfires and charcoal fires are only allowed in permanent fire rings or fire pits located within developed recreation sites, such as fee-based campgrounds and designated recreation areas.
Smoking is restricted to enclosed vehicles, buildings, or areas that are at least three feet in diameter and completely cleared of flammable materials.
The use of explosives and welding equipment is also prohibited under the restrictions.
Federal land managers say the restrictions are necessary due to increased fire danger and dry conditions. Visitors are encouraged to use extreme caution and follow all fire regulations to help prevent human-caused wildfires.
