
Eugene “Gene” Gable Roybal,74 of Longmont, Colorado, passed away peacefully at home on March 17, 2025, surrounded by his family. Eugene was born on June 24, 1950, in Salida, Colorado, to Fidel and Olivama Roybal.
As a child, Gene was always fond of the outdoors and never missed an opportunity to go fishing in the Arkansas River. He enjoyed camping, fishing, football, basketball, and had a fascinating mind in mathematics and geology. Gene graduated from Salida High School in 1968 and later attended the University of Colorado Boulder to study Computer Science. During his time at the University, Gene was a member of the United Mexican American Students (UMAS), an organization to encourage respect, dignity, justice and equality for Chicano students. After leaving CU, Gene began his professional career as a Computer Analyst and Programmer for IBM over the next 35 years.
Gene is preceded in death by his beloved parents Fidel and Olivama Roybal, Siblings: Waldo Roybal, Ruby Calvano, Raymond Roybal and Philip Roybal.
Gene is survived by his niece and God-daughter Alicia (Angelo) Madrid of Aurora, Colorado. Sister-in-law Sadie Roybal, nephew Leonard Trevino, niece Donna (Tom) Musgrove, nephew, Louis Calvano, niece Sherry Dere, niece Beverly MacKinnon, nephew Robert Roybal, nephew Tom Roybal and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends.
Gene is a beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, who touched the lives of many with his warmth and generosity. He lived a life filled with adventure, kindness and an unwavering love for his family.
Gene is loved by his family and friends; he will be dearly missed.
Services will be at First Presbyterian Church of Salida, Colorado on Monday, March 24th at 10:30am. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
