Envision Forest Health Council partners have secured funding for forest mitigation projects that address two treatment priority areas ID’d in the Community Wildfire Protection Plan.

An award of $366,000 has been given to the Methodist Front Project.  The Methodist Front Project creates a 5-mile-long area of fuel breaks to protect the southern flank of Salida and Poncha Springs.

The second fuel break is located west of Hecla Junction along Coyote Valley Road.  The 2-mile-long, 400-foot-wide fuel break improves firefighting capabilities by making it safer to access the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness in the event of a fire.
