Donkey Derby Days Needs Help to Keep the 90-Year-Old Celebration Going

Donkey Derby Days is facing a financial shortfall. The annual event that honors Cripple Creek’s mining history needs $30,000 to keep the more than 90-year-old tradition alive.

The Two Mile High Club takes care of 15 donkeys. Between May and October, the donkeys get to roam the city. Cripple Creek created Donkey Derby Days in 1931. This year, they need help to keep the celebration going. The City of Cripple Creek had to cut funding for all events due to the pandemic and declining gambling revenues. Cripple Creek’s revenue is down 22%.

The 92nd Donkey Derby Days is scheduled for August 11th through the 13th. If you would like to help, go to cripplecreekdonkeys.com.
