Denver Water has officially closed Antero Reservoir to public access.

The utility company this week began transferring water from Antero Reservoir to Cheesman Reservoir through the South Platte River system. Officials say approximately 18,000 acre-feet of water will be moved, enough to supply an estimated 72,000 households for one year.

Denver Water says the timeline for reopening Antero Reservoir to the public will depend on weather conditions and water levels, noting that the decision ultimately “rests with Mother Nature.”
