Colorado Parks and Wildlife has relocated more than 1,000 trout from Antero Reservoir ahead of a planned reservoir drawdown.
Wildlife officials said rainbow, brown, cutthroat, and hybrid trout were captured and transferred to Eleven Mile Reservoir and the South Platte River to preserve the fish population.
The relocation effort comes as Denver Water prepares to significantly lower water levels at Antero Reservoir because of ongoing drought conditions and water management needs.
CPW officials say the fish salvage operation was conducted to protect the fishery during the drawdown and minimize impacts on the reservoir’s aquatic resources.
The agency also stated that restocking efforts will begin once Antero Reservoir is refilled, with the goal of restoring the fishery for future anglers.
