Chaffee County’s Positivity Rate is 5.56% [Covid-19 Update]

Chaffee County Public Health is reporting 47 new Covid-19 cases in the last 7 days, 79 in the last 14 days, for a two-week positivity rate of 5.56%.  

It is also being reported that a 64-year-old female from the south end of the county died from complications of Covid-19.  

Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center currently has 1 Covid-19 patient and is running at 48 percent capacity.   

Governor Jared Polis has extended the mandatory mask mandate for another 30-days, at least through February 6th.   

Chaffee County Public Health has launched their new online scheduler for Covid-19 vaccine clinics at chaffeecounty.rsvpify.com.   

The vaccine clinics are drive-through clinics and are held Mondays and Tuesdays from 1 to 4 pm.  The vaccine clinics are for Chaffee County residents only.   

Those in Phase 1A and the beginning of Phase 1B, including those 70 plus, can register without having to wait for Public Health’s response to inquiries.   

Chaffee County Public Health says this new tool will better prepare the community for future phases of distribution.  Public Health will be able to improve traffic, inventory and time management.   

Over the next several weeks, Public Health will be vaccinating any healthcare worker or responder who falls within 1A and 1B and people 70 and older.   

To date, Chaffee County Public Health has administered 488 vaccines in less than two weeks.   

Phase 2 is estimated to begin later this winter. Phase 3 will begin as early as spring.   

Covid-19 Testing Continues in Chaffee County 

For those looking to receive a Covid-19 test in the north end of the county, Valley-Wide Health Systems is offering testing Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm.       

Valley-Wide will bill your health insurance.  However, if you are uninsured, the test is free.       

To register for a test in BV through Valley-Wide, call 719-395-8610, and choose the option to speak with a nurse.       

Testing in Salida remains Monday through Friday at the Chaffee County Fairgrounds.  Appointments for testing in Salida are now being make online.  Make an appointment the day before testing is held by going to curative.com.

Chaffee County Public Health has launched “Chaffee’s Got HEART.”  County residents are encouraged to take the pledge to follow the 5 commitments to containment:                 

  • Hang at home if sick.                     
  • Excel at hand washing.                     
  • Always wear a mask in public.                     
  • Respect social distancing.                      
  • Test if you have symptoms.
