Covid-19 Update: Friday, January 15, 2021

Chaffee County Public Health is reporting 45 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 7 days, 93 in the last 14 days, for a 2-week positivity rate of 5.95%.   

Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center currently has no Covid-19 patients and is at 64 percent capacity.   

There are currently 202 known active cases of Covid-19 in the San Luis Valley including 8 in Saguache County and 92 in Alamosa County.   

Chaffee County Public Health has added another vaccination event for Saturday, January 23rd.  This vaccination event is by appointment only and only for healthcare workers, responders, and those who are 70 and older.   

This event is dependent on having enough vaccine.  If you already have an appointment scheduled with Public Health, please keep it.

Over the next several weeks, Public Health will be vaccinating any healthcare worker or responder who falls within 1A and 1B and people 70 and older.   

Phase 2 is estimated to begin later this winter. Phase 3 will begin as early as spring.   

Saguache County Public Health is now making appointments for Covid-19 vaccinations for county residents who are high and moderate risk health care workers, first responders, as well as county residents age 70 and older.  The vaccination clinic is in Crestone.  Call 719-655-2533.   

Covid-19 testing continues in Chaffee County.    

For those looking to receive a Covid-19 test in the north end of the county, Valley-Wide Health Systems is offering testing Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm.       

Valley-Wide will bill your health insurance.  However, if you are uninsured, the test is free.       

To register for a test in BV through Valley-Wide, call 719-395-8610, and choose the option to speak with a nurse.       

Testing in Salida remains Monday through Friday at the Chaffee County Fairgrounds.  Appointments for testing in Salida are now being make online.  Make an appointment the day before testing is held by going to curative.com. 

Chaffee County Public Health has launched “Chaffee’s Got HEART.”  County residents are encouraged to take the pledge to follow the 5 commitments to containment:                 

  • Hang at home if sick.                     
  • Excel at hand washing.                     
  • Always wear a mask in public.                     
  • Respect social distancing.                      
  • Test if you have symptoms.
