The Chaffee County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to postpone the Nestlé Waters North America 1041 permit hearing until Oct. 20 during their April 7 meeting.

The commissioners also agreed that they will extend Nestlé’s existing 1041 permit to accommodate the new hearing date when they meet April 21.

With Gov. Jared Polis extending the COVID-19 stay-at-home order until at least April 26, the Nestlé hearing could not have taken place at the Buena Vista Community Center as planned.

The commissioners discussed the possibility of holding the hearing as a virtual meeting, but all three agreed that, given a large expected turnout and bandwidth limitations, a virtual meeting would not adequately accommodate public participation.

The commissioners also directed county staff members to look into possible times and locations for the rescheduled hearing.
