Cottonwood Pass is closing for the season on Wednesday, November 1st.

The seasonal road closure will be in effect from both the Chaffee County and Gunnison County sides of the 12,126-foot-high Cottonwood Pass. After this time, Chaffee County Road 306 leading to Cottonwood Pass is not maintained beyond the Denny Creek Trailhead, and motor vehicles (except snowmobiles, snowcats) will not be allowed beyond the winter closure gate.

Recreators are advised to travel up CR306 at their own risk, as no maintenance is provided during the months of winter closure.

Chaffee County’s Road and Bridge Department aims to reopen Cottonwood Pass open before Memorial Day 2024, conditions and snowpack permitting.
