Summit County is shutting off its Flock cameras for the next 30 days following public pushback from the public and questions from county commissioners about how the cameras were being used.
The Summit County Sheriff’s Office said all 30 cameras operated by the sheriff’s office in unincorporated Summit County will be deactivated for a month while the department reviews its relationship with Flock, as well as its own policies and practices.
The City of Steamboat Springs also announced yesterday they are ending their relationship with Flock.
The City of Salida canceled its contract with Flock Safety earlier this month. Salida Police Chief Russ Johnson said that while the Flock system had been a helpful tool, balancing public safety with community trust, privacy and civil liberties was the deciding factor.
