The Colorado Supreme Court has upheld the disbarment of former 11th Judicial District Attorney Linda Stanley, ruling that she was correctly barred from practicing law after making inappropriate comments to the media and improperly attempting to remove a judge from a high-profile murder case.
Justice William Hood, writing for the Court, said, “Stanley abused her position as elected DA, seriously impeding the rights of defendants, the right to justice for alleged victims, and the right of Coloradans to adjudicate the guilt or innocence of alleged perpetrators of serious crime.”
The decision exhausts Stanley’s final appeal and permanently ends her chance of regaining her law license. She is also responsible for paying more than $307,000 to Fremont, Chaffee, and Custer counties, which sued her for allegedly misusing taxpayer funds to cover legal expenses tied to her misconduct.
