As temperatures rise, Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) is reminding residents and visitors of an increase in rattlesnake activity during April and May, especially in elevations between 7,500 and 9,000 feet.
When hiking in these areas, CPW recommends wearing boots and high socks and keeping a safe distance—at least five feet—if a snake is encountered. Most people will hear a rattlesnake’s warning rattle before they see the snake.
