Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) is investigating an incident near Cañon City where a man claims to have killed a mountain lion in self-defense. The man, who was sitting outside his RV in a campground, says the mountain lion approached and engaged with his dog. In response, the man killed the lion using a shovel.
CPW is reviewing the details of the encounter to determine the next steps. Wildlife officials urge residents and visitors to remain vigilant in areas where mountain lions are known to roam and follow safety guidelines when encountering wildlife.
