Submissions for the Chaffee County Writers Exchange’s 2nd annual Youth Writing Contest are now being accepted.

The theme for this year’s short fiction contest is “someday”.

The hope of the Chaffee County Writers Exchange is to inspire creative writing and recognize all of the budding writers in the community. The contest was created and coordinated by CCWE both Salida and Buena Vista’s libraries and school districts.

There are two divisions: Senior, ages 14 to 18, and Junior, ages 10 to 13. First place in each category receives $400 and two runners-up receive $150 each.

Senior Division stories are limited to 600 words minimum and 1,500 words maximum while the Junior Division stories are limited to a minimum of 500 words and 1,000 words maximum. Judging begins in March and the winners will be announced in April. CCWE is planning an awards ceremony near the end of April to recognize the young writers, and volunteer judges.

All entries must be submitted by March 10th. Visit ccwritersexchange.org for more information and to submit your essay.
