The Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office is alerting residents to a new scam targeting community members.
According to authorities, scammers are posing as representatives from Publishers Clearing House and falsely claiming victims have won a new truck. The callers then request a $500 Amazon gift card to “submit an application.” After that, victims are asked to send an additional $500 gift card for a supposed chance to win $15 million.
Law enforcement officials stress that this is a scam. Publishers Clearing House does not require payment or gift cards to claim prizes.
Residents are urged not to send money or gift cards and to report any suspected scam activity to the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office.
