Chaffee County Sheriff Updates Stage II Fire Restrictions

Stage II Fire Restrictions are in place for Chaffee and Lake Counties along with the Town of Buena Vista and all BLM lands in Chaffee, Lake and Park Counties. 

Stage II Fire Restrictions prohibit all open burning of any kind. 

Chaffee County Sheriff John Spezze over the weekend, amended fire restrictions to include all agricultural burning, including ditch burning. 

U.S. Forest Service officials have prohibited the use of campfires, along with charcoal grills and wood stoves, and smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle, trailer of building. 

The Forest Service has closed all recreational sites, including camp- grounds, in the Rocky Mountain Region. 

All trails, trailheads and parking facilities remain open.  Trail users should be prepared for limited or no services such as restroom facilities and garbage collection. 

The Mountain Counties of Colorado are NOT open for visitors, tourism, or leisure at this time.
