Chaffee County Search and Rescue North responded this week to assist a hiker whose dog was in distress on Mount Princeton.

While helping the hiker and their dog, rescue crews were informed of another hiker further up the trail who also needed help with their dog. Teams assisted both parties and safely shuttled them back to the trailhead.

Search and Rescue reports an increase in dog-related calls, noting that “dog missions can quickly turn into human missions.”

The agency reminds hikers to prepare for their pets just as they would for themselves. This includes planning for hydration, endurance, and comfort when bringing dogs on the trail.
