Chaffee County Request to Open More Businesses Goes to Governor

Chaffee County Commissioners unanimously approved an application for a variance request to the state Friday.

The variance request is to allow the early opening of restaurants, bars and tasting rooms, fitness centers, campgrounds and RV parks, along with outfitters and guiding activities, outdoor hot springs, and the county’s only bowling alley.  Reopening of these businesses would come with numerous restrictions like reduced capacities, no waiting in lines or lobbies, and hygiene requirements for staff.

Key components of the request are to show that we have capacity available at Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center along with community testing and a tracking system in place.

Now that the request for variance has been passed, it now awaits the approval of Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center, the Public Health Director and the 3 Chaffee County Municipalities.  It will then be sent to the governor for approval.  No timeline was given on an anticipated reply from the state.

The variance request does not include hotels and motels or short term rentals.
