Chaffee County Public Health is introducing a new community safety initiative designed to help residents feel more confident and prepared in potentially dangerous situations.

The program, called Safer Together, combines practical self-defense training with techniques to recognize, manage, and de-escalate conflict. Organizers say the course emphasizes personal safety and empowerment, while also teaching participants how to defuse tense or threatening encounters before they escalate.

The six-week course begins tonight and will run every Thursday evening through April 30. Sessions will be held at the Presbyterian Church in Salida.

Community members interested in participating are encouraged to register online through the Chaffee County Public Health website.
