SALIDA, COLO – Effective Wednesday, May 1st, 2024, Chaffee County Landfill will no longer be open to the general public on Wednesdays. This schedule change will allow adequate time for Landfill staff to address on-going equipment maintenance and repair needs, update its tracking systems and regulatory reporting compliance requirements, and manage wind-blown litter pickup. Commercial waste hauler customers will still be able to utilize the Landfill on Wednesdays upon making arrangements with the Landfill manager.

The public is welcome to utilize the Landfill during regular business hours, which will be 8:00 am – 3:30 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays (closed Sundays, holidays, and Wednesdays as of May 1st).

The Landfill would also like to remind the community of its high winds closure policy. The Chaffee County Landfill is required to pause operations and close the facility when conditions warrant it, including times of excessive winds that are detected by on-site instruments and/or verified by the National Weather Service. When sustained winds are >40 miles per hour and/or gusts are equal to or exceed 55 miles per hour, the Landfill will generally close for the day. This is done in consideration of customer and staff safety and the impacts of wind-blown materials and debris. If it is a windy or stormy day, customers are advised to call the Landfill at 719.539.3738 or the County Administrative Offices at 719.539.2218 to confirm the facility is open and operating before driving to the Landfill.

The Landfill looks forward to serving you during its regular open hours. Thank you for your understanding and support of these schedule adaptations that will allow the Chaffee County Landfill to operate more effectively.
