The Chaffee County Board of Commissioners has denied a permit application for a proposed campground in the Pine Creek area north of Buena Vista.
The proposal called for the development of a 36-site campground on approximately 24 acres near the Pine Creek Trailhead.
During the public hearing process, 19 Chaffee County residents spoke in opposition to the project, raising concerns about the campground and its potential impacts on the area.
Following public comment and deliberation, commissioners voted to deny the permit request, preventing the proposed campground from moving forward at the Pine Creek location.
The decision concludes the current application process for the project, which had generated significant public interest among residents and recreation users in the area.
