Today marks 420, an informal holiday widely recognized within marijuana culture and celebrated by cannabis consumers across the country.
The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is once again participating in the Mile High 420 Festival to raise awareness about the dangers of impaired driving. Officials are encouraging attendees to plan ahead and choose a safe ride home rather than getting behind the wheel while under the influence.
According to CDOT data, approximately one in three traffic fatalities involves an impaired driver. In 2024 alone, 45 roadway deaths in Colorado involved an at-fault driver who was suspected of cannabis impairment at the time of the crash.
This 4/20, CDOT is reminding cannabis users to celebrate responsibly and keep impairment off the road to help prevent avoidable tragedies.
