The Colorado Department of Transportation is reminding motorists to expect heavier traffic and longer travel times on mountain highways during the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

To help ease congestion, CDOT has suspended most highway construction and maintenance projects through Sunday to improve traffic flow across the state.

Meanwhile, the Colorado State Patrol and local law enforcement agencies have launched the Fourth of July “Heat Is On” DUI enforcement campaign.

Drivers can expect increased patrols and sobriety checkpoints throughout the holiday weekend as officers work to remove impaired drivers from Colorado roadways.

Officials encourage everyone to plan ahead, drive responsibly, and designate a sober driver if alcohol is part of the holiday celebration.
