As April 20th approaches, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is reinforcing its message: Don’t drive high.

After three years of research and feedback from industry employees, CDOT is sharing updated safety recommendations to prevent cannabis-impaired driving. Guidelines include:

  • Wait at least six hours after smoking 35mg of THC before driving.
  • Wait eight hours after consuming up to 18mg of THC in edibles or drinks.
  • Avoid driving entirely if unsure of impairment levels.

CDOT reminds Coloradans that cannabis DUIs carry the same penalties as alcohol-related DUIs, including fines, court costs, and potential jail time.

If you’re unsure whether you’re safe to drive, don’t risk it—find a sober ride instead.
