Buena Vista’s Gold Rush Days event has been postponed until summer of 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
After weeks of deliberation the Buena Vista Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with the Town of Buena Vista and Public Health officials, has decided to postpone a signature summer event, Gold Rush Days, until Summer of 2021. This decision was made in response to guidance recommended by Chaffee County Public Health around large group gatherings in the county this summer.
This long-standing event that was set to take place on Saturday, August 1st and Sunday, August 2nd, is one of three events that hosts the Burro Days Triple Crown, the other two events in Fairplay and Leadville have also been postponed to a later date. The event also includes market vendors, music and entertainment at River Park throughout the weekend.
“It was not easy decision to cancel this event or any events this summer. We want to assure the community that we were advocating for summer events for our town and members, but we must follow the County’s directives around the COVID-19 pandemic and the impact that large gatherings could have on the health of our community,” says the Chamber.
The Chamber is actively looking at other options to help recognize Gold Rush Days and celebrate the history of our Town. It will be on a much smaller scale that will allow for social distancing and meet the guidelines the State of Colorado and Chaffee County has put in place regarding group gatherings.
